RANGIA: If it were not for the prompt and tireless rescue efforts of the people of Bilpar and Nonapar villages, the post-blast derailment of the Guwahati-Puri Express on Sunday evening might have resulted in many more injuries and maybe even some deaths. But, fortunately for the passengers aboard the train, such was not the case. The locals of these two villages in the area descended on the injured passengers almost like the hand of God, saving many precious lives.

Other than the locals, there was nobody either from the railway security forces or from the civil administration available immediately at the spot to rescue injured passengers from the derailed and capsized bogies. About 100 passengers were injured after eight coaches of the Guwahati-Puri Express got derailed, of which four capsized, following a blast at the Bhatkuchi-Nonapar area under Rangia railway division in Assam's Kamrup (rural) district on Sunday evening. No deaths were reported in the accident.
