GUWAHATI: The peace process with the Ulfa's pro-talks faction, led by Arabinda Rajkhowa , has run into rough weather with militants belonging to the group threatening to pull out of the parleys if the government forces them to lay down arms before the beginning of the dialogue. "We will not lay down our arms. The government is trying to set a pre-condition by asking us to do so. We had agreed for unconditional talks. If the government now wants to force us to lay down arms, talks will not be held then," Ulfa's pro-talks faction spokesman Mrinal Hazarika told TOI on Saturday. He, however, added that Ulfa had no problem in declaring a formal ceasefire and sign the suspension of operation. On Friday, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said like all other militant outfits that have entered the peace process, Ulfa, too, has to sign the formal suspension of operations and deposit their arms before beginning of the dialogue. No talks if govt forces us to lay down arms: Ulfa - Times of India
