KOLKATA: The change of guard in the state brought a high-profile international figure to Writers' Buildings on Friday, barely 24 hours ahead of Mamata Banerjee's business summit. Robert Blake , assistant secretary of state for south and central Asia asked the CM and her "lenient government" to identify sectors for investment. But she must ensure that "there's a hospitable climate for investment". Blake has invited Mamata to the US.

The Maoist menace in the state has been a cause of concern in international circles, especially after the blast aimed at Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's convoy on the day he had gone to Salboni in West Midnapore to lay the foundation for the JSW steel plant in November 2008.
