LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has asked the foreign affairs ministry to lodge an official, sovereign protest with the United States against a contest of drawing blasphemous cartoons organised on the Facebook social networking website. “In case of non-compliance of the direction of this court in regard to the lodging of official protest to the US Department of State, the minister of foreign affairs of government of Pakistan has to appear in the court in person to explain why he has not complied with direction of this court in letter and spirit,” Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry said in his detailed order. In an earlier short order he had directed the PTA to block access to the website. In an earlier short order he had directed the PTA to block access to the website. “The ministry of foreign affairs of the Pakistan government is directed to act with immediate effect by lodging an official and sovereign protest to the US Department of State stating that as per laws of commerce and business the above-mentioned enterprise is governed by the legal jurisdiction of the US and that this global social networking portal, ‘Facebook’, has deliberately or recklessly been responsible for immense hurt and discomfort caused to the majority of Muslim population of Pakistan by deliberately or recklessly not taking any effective measures for preventing, stopping or blocking the very blasphemous contest of ‘Everybody draw Mohammad day’ to which it has complete and autonomous authority and has already built-in mechanism for blocking such very blasphemous misbehaviour or misconduct,” the order said.Full Story: LHC asks govt to lodge protest with US on Facebook - DAWN.com
