ISLAMABAD: The US has assured Pakistan of helping it in every possible way to overcome the energy deficit and the two countries would be working closely on this issue in the near future, Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit said on Thursday while addressing a weekly briefing at his office.

He said the US Nuclear Security Summit had helped reinforce Pakistan’s credentials as a nuclear-armed state, which is fully aware of its responsibilities. “Pakistan is playing an important role in promoting best practices aimed at enhancing nuclear security. Pakistan can also contribute significantly towards promoting peaceful use of nuclear technology under appropriate IAEA safeguards,” he added.
