The US said on Monday it was "top priority" for the Obama regime to provide India direct access to David Headley. But it was non-committal on the time-frame and described the process as "difficult". Following assurances from US President Barack Obama and his national security adviser General James Jones during the just concluded Washington trip of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, India was upbeat about access to Headley. Briefing the media on Singh's visit, US envoy to India Timothy Roemer confirmed Washington had been sharing information with Delhi on Headley on a "real time basis". He added that it was "top priority" to provide direct access to the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba operative "as quickly as possible". However, Roemer was quick to say that existing US laws and the layering of the judicial system made this difficult.
