US satisfied with recall fix, Toyota chief apologizes - Reuters

WASHINGTON, Jan 30 (Reuters) - U.S. safety regulators aresatisfied with a Toyota Motor Corp. ( 7203.T ) plan for fixing anaccelerator problem that is part of a widening global recalland unprecedented sales and production halt, a governmentofficial said on Saturday.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)engineers have reviewed Toyota's proposal for preventing gaspedals in eight models from sticking and have raised noobjections, said the official, who spoke on condition ofanonymity because the plan has yet to be publicly announced. Toyota has issued a series of recent recalls covering 5.6million vehicles in the United states due to suddenacceleration in some vehicles. It is the largest ever recallfor Toyota and among the biggest for an automaker in U.S.history.
